MOUNT COOK (AORAKI) TOUR

A day to remember for its stunning scenic contrasts, as we travel by road from Christchurch to Mount Cook (5 hours drive, 330 Kms (including stops ), through the rich pastoral farmlands of the Canterbury Plains, the foothills of the Southern Alps from Geraldine to Fairlie, and through the MacKenzie Basin, to Lake Tekapo.  Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd where the turquoise-blue waters contrasted by the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps, and surrounding yellow-tussock farmland, are sure to take your breath away. We drive past the Mt St John observatory, then on to Lake Pukaki, where the Tasman Valley opens into the MacKenzie Basin wtih Mount Cook and the surrounding snow covered peaks in the background, reaching Mount Cook village, and the Hermitage Hotel, in time for lunch at the Sir Edmund Hillary Cafe. (included in cost).

Following lunch, there may be time for you to take a 30 minute hike to view the Tasman Lake and Tasman Glacier, or alternatively, take a flat 30 minute walk to view the Tasman Lake. 

Please note - we must leave the Mt Cook village area, and start the return journey, by 2.30pm at the latest.

Because this is a private tour, we are happy to amend the itinerary to suit. Just let us know what you want in advance.
